The Wilaya
of Bechar holds considerable natural resources which enhance it. Its many

BECHAR.
Name
relating to the announcement of the good news, located at an altitude of 784
meters, the city of BECHAR head of stages and connection between the North and
the extreme South, is 700 km from Oran and 1000 km from Algiers. Raised to the
rank of the mixed commune on July 8, 1919, it has been since August 7, 1957, the
capital of the Saoura department. North of the city, the agricultural village
of Ouakda extends to the edge of the Wadi Bechar. Its water reservoir, its old
ksar worn by time, in the middle of a beautiful oasis, give the sites an
original aspect. Beyond the large palm grove of Bechar which stretched out in
all its beauty has been largely supplanted by solid buildings. Its main
districts are DEBDABA, the city center which brings together the main public
buildings, the GOURAÏ district, the BARGA, the central or TADMAMINE, BECHAR
DJEDID or Bidon II, the MEZARIF district ex. Niger Sea plateau.
Antar and
its fantastic caves, the ksar in its entirety, the wadi, and the walks on the
banks, open to Bechar convincing prospects for its tourist development.
TAGHIT
Taghit, 90
km from Bechar*, owes its name to its rocky terrain. Hidden by a hill
overlooking it, this beautiful village appears in all its splendor at the top
of the dominant coast.
Its palm grove adds to the site a
very natural beauty; it presents itself in its opulent appearance and borders
the wadi where the water of the Zousfana flows. The ksar retains its
traditional character. It stands majestically in the middle of this dream
setting and all around the village, which has undergone many transformations,
holds in its old walls the secret of the Bni Goumi. While the hotel of high
standing, urges a compensatory rest, the large dune of the Western Erg gives
the landscape its beautiful character by the color of its golden sand. At its
summit extends an extraordinary panorama. Its tourist vocation is justified by
its natural site, its attractive palm grove, its green gardens, and the vestiges
of prehistoric times, including the main resort of BOUROUIS where drawings of
bovids predominate. This enchanting natural environment also extends to the
other villages of the Municipality - ZAOUI FOUGANIA - BARBI- BAKHTI - BRIKA -
ZAOUIA TAHTANIA. While the moussem which takes on the appearance of a popular
festival triggers the renewal of relaxation and a good atmosphere.
