Eastern Algeria, generally referred to as the region of Constantine, more than that of Annaba (two of its major cities), is the place of shared wealth. The wealth of memories first, with the Antique Cirta, the Numidian capital of Massinissa then of a Roman confederation rebuilt by Constantine on an impregnable hill, or Hippo Regius (Hippone), the seat of Africa Nova where the message of St Augustine and his famous Pax Concordia was spread.
A few records of that era have survived: remains of stone, and abundant Phoenician, Roman, Christian, and Muslim presence, but also other well alive rituals. Other records include a
very popular hydro up therapy among all those who have inhabited these
lands, as those attending even now hammam Meskhoutine, Guegour, or Sokhna. Such rich history, heritage, and culture indeed.
Geographically
speaking, these sites and cities are located in the setting of a beautiful coastline that is home to a mosaic of forest, lake, dune, and sea ecosystems -
the result of generous rainfall. Its colors in indentations are so intense and
pure that the deep blue sea can't help shining. This stretch of coastline, from
the cornice of Jijel to the gorgeous El Kala National Park through the
beautiful cove of Skikda, backs on vast forests that go down to golden beaches
and crystal clear waters.
